City of Sanctuary Stop Press News - Can you help with the Emergency Night Shelter?

Hello Everyone,

Apologies for two mailings in one day, but I wanted to add this
Call out for the emergency night shelter in Burngreave:

Over the last 4 and a half months an emergency night shelter has provided
147 nights accommodation in total for 15 men and 4 women. The people using
the shelter are destitute exiles (refused asylum seekers); they have no
access to Sheffield's homeless service provision. Without the shelter many
would have been sleeping rough. The night shelter is only made possible by
people volunteering to stay over for one night (usually every other week or
once a month). The frequency in which the shelter is being used and the fact
that some of our volunteers are moving away from Sheffield means that we
need to refresh our volunteer list.

We need both men and women to volunteer either one or two nights per month.

What does volunteering entail?

Meeting the guests at 10:30pm, perhaps having a hot drink together, sleeping
the night (on a community hall floor). In the morning lock up and start your
day 7:00- 8:30am. Typically there are between 1 and 4 people staying each
night.

Who volunteers?

A wide variety of people, mainly from north Sheffield, who have one thing in
common, they have compassion for people made destitute by the government
system.

Theses are some of the dates we need to cover for the men's team

Mon 26th April

Wed 30th April

Thur 1st May

Sunday 4th May

Friday 9th of May

Monday 12th May

Wed 14th May

The women's team is used less frequently as and when needed. It is being
used at the moment for one Eritrean lady.
